Configuration

Learn how to manage instance-wide settings on the Management Portal Configuration page.

Overview

The Configuration page ("Manage configuration settings.") groups instance-wide settings that are stored in Azure App Configuration. Each tab saves independently, and every save asks for confirmation first.

Tab Purpose
Status Message Banner message shown to all users in the User Portal
Welcome Message Message that extends the welcome shown when a user starts a new conversation
Self-Service Agent template and AI models offered for self-service agent creation
Featured Agents Agents shown in the Featured section of the User Portal
Feature Flags Enable or disable feature flags, edit descriptions, and manage per-user exceptions
Agent Workflows Tools that require the workflow router prompt, and workflow status messages

Prerequisites

  • Access to the Management Portal.
  • Permission to read and write app configurations (FoundationaLLM.Configuration/appConfigurations/read and /write).

Open the Configuration Page

  1. Sign in to the Management Portal.
  2. In the sidebar, select Platform > Configuration.
  3. Select a tab.

Status Message

Use a rich text editor to publish a message that appears for all users in the User Portal. Select Save to publish it or Clear to remove it.

For details, see Configure the System Status Message.

Welcome Message

The Welcome Message tab sets an instance-wide message that extends the welcome shown to users when they start a new conversation with an agent.

  1. Enter the message in the rich text editor.
  2. Select Save, then confirm Save Agent Welcome Message.
  3. To remove the message, select Clear and confirm Clear Agent Welcome Message.

The message is stored as HTML in FoundationaLLM:Instance:AgentWelcomeMessage.

Self-Service

The Self-Service tab has two sections:

  • Agent Template — select the agent template offered to users who create their own agents, then select Save. The list contains the agent templates installed on the Packages page. The value is stored in FoundationaLLM:UserPortal:Configuration:SelfServiceAgentTemplate.
  • AI Models — choose the completion models users can pick for self-service agents, then select Save.

For details, see Configure Self-Service AI Models.

The Featured Agents tab controls which agents appear in the Featured section of the User Portal.

  1. In Add Agent, search for and select an agent, then select Add.
  2. Drag rows by the handle to change the display order.
  3. Select Pinned for agents that must always be visible to users, regardless of their permissions.
  4. Use the trash icon to remove an agent from the list.
  5. Select Save, then confirm Save Featured Agents.

The list is stored in FoundationaLLM:UserPortal:Configuration:FeaturedAgentNames as a comma-separated list of agent names, in order. Pinned agents have the suffix |* (for example, hr-assistant|*,it-helpdesk).

Feature Flags

The Feature Flags tab lists every feature flag found in Azure App Configuration, sorted by id.

Column Description
Feature Flag Flag id (for example FoundationaLLM.Preview)
Description Editable description
Enabled Default on/off state of the flag
Exceptions Pencil button and count of user principal names (UPNs) that receive the flag regardless of its default state
Save Saves the row. Enabled only when the row has changes.

To change a flag:

  1. Change Enabled or Description as needed.
  2. To manage exceptions, select the pencil in Exceptions. In the dialog, type a UPN and press Enter or type a comma to add it. Select Apply.
  3. Select the save icon on the row, then confirm Save Feature Flag.

Exceptions are stored as the users of a Microsoft.Targeting filter on the flag. Removing all exceptions removes the targeting filter.

Feature flags that affect the Management Portal include:

Flag Effect
FoundationaLLM.Preview Shows preview features, such as the Dynamic Compute page and realtime speech settings in the agent editor
FoundationaLLM.ManagementPortal.Sandbox Shows the Sandboxes page and the agent editor Sandbox tab
FoundationaLLM.Agent.PrivateStore Enables the agent editor Private Storage tab

Agent Workflows

Tools requiring the router prompt

Select the tools that require the workflow router prompt when they are bound to an agent.

  1. In Tools requiring the router prompt, select one or more tools. The list contains the platform tools.
  2. Select Save, then confirm Save Agent Workflows.

Notes:

  • The selection is saved as tool resource names (comma-separated) in FoundationaLLM:APIEndpoints:LangChainAPI:Configuration:WorkflowToolEscalation:ToolsRequiringRouterPrompt.
  • Saving creates the configuration entry if it does not exist yet, even when nothing is selected.
  • A tool that is no longer in the platform list stays selected, labeled "(not in the platform tool list)", until you remove it.
  • If platform tools cannot be loaded, the selection cannot be saved.

Status messages

Edit the status messages the agent workflow shows while it runs. There are three lists:

List When it is shown App Configuration key (prefix FoundationaLLM:APIEndpoints:LangChainAPI:Configuration:)
Main status messages While the workflow determines whether tools are needed WorkflowMainStatusMessages
Tool status messages Before the workflow executes tools WorkflowToolStatusMessages
Tool escalation status messages While the escalation pass decides whether tools are needed WorkflowToolEscalation:StatusMessages

For each list:

  1. Type a message in Add message and select Add (or press Enter).
  2. Edit messages in place, drag rows to reorder them, or remove them with the trash icon.
  3. Select Save, then confirm Save Status Messages.

The workflow picks one message at random. Messages can include the placeholders {current_round} and {max_rounds}, for example Thinking (round {current_round} of {max_rounds}).... Each list is stored as a pipe-separated value, so a message cannot contain the | character. An empty list keeps the workflow's built-in message.
